About Us

Our Story

Founded in 1972, the first Hartz Chicken began with a simple mission: to serve the South’s best fried chicken with a side of warm hospitality. Guests quickly fell in love—not just with the crispy chicken, but also with the homemade yeast rolls, Southern-style sides, and friendly service. By the late ’80s, Hartz Chicken had become a Houston favorite.

Over the years, we’ve grown from a humble take-out spot into a full-service experience offering drive-thru, take-out, delivery, and dine-in. Today, many of our locations feature an all-you-can-eat buffet—a signature offering that sets us apart. Guests can still order à la carte or enjoy the variety and value of our buffet. The menu includes our famous crispy chicken, baked chicken, tenders, hot wings, crispy fish, livers, gizzards, homemade rolls, fresh vegetables, casseroles, salads, and desserts.
